HUNZA:

The Hunza Valley is a mountainous valley formed by the Hunza River in the northern part of Pakistan s Gilgit-Baltistan region. It is bordered to the northwest by Ishkoman, to the southeast by Shigar, to the north by Afghanistan s Wakhan Corridor, and to the northeast by the Chinese region of Xinjiang. The Hunza Valley floor is 2,438 metres above sea level (7,999 feet). The Hunza Valley is divided geographically into the Upper Hunza (Gojal), Central Hunza, and Lower Hunza regions (Shinaki).

Population:

Population of Hunza is 243,324.

Best time to visit Hunza:

With their sunny days and comfortable temperatures, the summer months are the most favoured. Early June to late April is the start of spring, which can be a lovely time of year to go because of the gradual snowmelt that reveals woods and wildflowers as well as the reemergence of Karakorum s animals after its protracted hibernation.

How to Reach Hunza:

Drive on the Hazara motorway and exit at the very end at Balakot new city housing society. Then drive on the CPEC to Babusar Top if it is open, other wise use the Besham road.

Places to visit in Hunza:

The snow-capped and rugged mountains of the Hunza valley are well-known. Many tourists travelled to Hunza specifically to catch a glimpse of the Rakaposhi Mountain s brilliant ice wall. Passu Peak, Ultra Peak, and Kuksel Sar are some of the other well-known mountains in Hunza.

What to eat in Hunza:

1 Chapshuro:
A Hunza pie without a crust, chapshuro contains ground beef, seasonings, onions, and other delicacies. Without viewing and tasting this delicacy, you just cannot travel to Hunza.
Although chapshuros are frequently referred to as “Hunza Pizza,” in my opinion, they are more like Mexican tacos and quesadillas. No resemblances to Italian pizza here!
Half-circle-shaped chapshuros are filled with sizzling-hot beef, mutton, or traditionally: yak meat.
2 Gyaling/Gral:
A thin, flexible wheat bread that resembles a stack of pancakes is the same Hunza dish that is referred to as gral and gyaling.
Typically served in a stack, this meal is dipped in the beloved apricot oil and/or butter from nearby cows.
3 Buroshapik/Ghilmindi:
Another dish from Hunza cuisine that you can t make at home is ghillmindi. It s one of my all-time favourites, so if you visit Hunza, you must try it!
4 Diram Pitti:
Diram pitti, like harissa, is primarily consumed at regional festivals and other festive occasions. Despite having a lot of wheat in it, almonds and apricot seed oil make the dish delicious overall. Usually soft and brownish, diram pitti is eaten for breakfast or lunch.
5 Tumoro Tea:
The aromatic plant tumoro, which grows in the area, is utilised to create this delectable herbal concoction.
The tea, which is often referred to as wild thyme, is typically yellow in colour and is made in the same way as other teas.
6 Hoilo Garma:
You won t be able to help but appreciate hoilo garma, which is my all-time favourite dish from the Hunza Valley.
The meal is constructed of dough prepared from organic flour, which is combined with spinach and potato that are cultivated nearby.
7 Buttering Doudo:
Traditional Hunza soup known as buttering doudo is typically consumed in the winter. This recipe is exceptionally special since it includes dried apricots.
This unusual soup is made with the apricots, which are well-known in the area, sugar water, and lemon. Although there are other doudo variations, none have flavours quite like this.
8 Harissa:
Harissa is one of the more uncommon products on this list because it is typically produced for both weddings and funerals. You won t be able to find it every day. But anywhere there is a gathering, from Chapursan Valley to Karimabad, you can find it.
9 Molida:
Similar to macaroni and cheese, this popular Central Hunza and Gojal dish is a staple of the Hunza Valley. The dish s unique flavour comes from the combination of milk, butter, and apricot oil with little pieces of wheat shapik, as it is known locally.
The milk, apricot oil, and butter are quickly combined and served hot, making for the perfect comfort food dish. The numerous bits of shapik end up taste like noodles.
10 Yak Meat:
You can only imagine how happy I was to learn that yak meat is a common ingredient in Hunza cuisine as I had been longing to sample it for YEARS. Yak meat is best consumed in Pakistan (and consequently Hunza) in the fall and winter, however many eateries and butchers sell it all year long. 11 Pitti:
Pitti is merely wheat bread baked in a conventional stove known as a bukhari, and it is a mainstay in any Hunza home. Baking and all other forms of cooking can be done in bukhari, which are little, portable fireplaces.
The basic ingredient for the bread, which has been consumed for almost 2000 years, is buckwheat flour. Pitti is nutrient-rich and provides energy for hours. This has historically been (and still is!) a great energy booster for outdoor or animal activities.
This Hunza bread is special because it s not normally consumed hot. It is often prepared in the morning and let to cool before being consumed throughout the day.

Things to do in Hunza:

The breathtaking vistas of the Karakoram Mountains, the winding roads leading to the Hunza River, and the picturesque lakes are all must-have experiences when visiting the Hunza Tour Places. There are three sections: Upper Hunza Gojal, Central Hunza, Lower Hunza, and Hunza Valley.
The Hunza Valley is also the greatest destination due to its moderate climate, with the optimum months to visit being April to October when the summertime maximum temperature is 27 °C. The cherry blossom season features an infinite variety of hues.
